september 2008, nima gorji is spending 1 month at the house of his friend babalow baba ifa leri oma in ibiza. in cuban santeria, a babalow is the father of secrets, a shaman, a spiritual guide. the philosophy of ifa was brought by the slaves from afrika, especially nigeria, to the caribbean islands. it became santeria in cuba, vodoo in haiti, condomble in brasil. the yoruba language is used in the santerias books and the ceremonies as chants. nima assisted to some ceremonies where the babalow is cleaning somones soul, energy, or aura, and establish a direct conection with a special energy called orisha. each orisha has specific attributes like a color, tools, beads, and various patterns of percussion rhythm. nima is listening to all these beats coming directly from cuba, he samples some parts, and produces a new ep : azul y verde. we are blue is a tribute to yemaya, the mother of the sea. she represents maternity, fertility, and life on earth in general. her color is blue and her number 7. the chant is performed by lazaro ross a cuban artist who died in 2005. lazaro was a legendary akpwon, or lead singer in the yoruba tradition. warriors is a tribute to oggun, another main orisha. he represents the force and the work of human kind. he is working with metal, and he always carry a knife. his color is green and his number is 3.

when we first started thinking about the compilation, we had in mind the idea to put together a great minimal techno selection with stuff from the early 90s, which really inspired us, like robert hood, dan bell, plastikman, pansonic and mike ink to name a few. whilst working on the project we had the feeling that there is so much more great and influential minimal music from way before the techno thing started. so we were very excited to combine the music from the electronic pioneers, with the tracks from the minimal techno godfathers in a very modern way. in minimal music there is so much (space) in between the sounds and the space that gives you a lot of opportunities for an own interpretation. the grandfather paradox is a scientific theory about time travelling and was first described by the science fiction writer rene barjavel in his book - le voyageur imprudent. we took suggestions out of that because we felt like we are travelling back in time and manipulating the old music with modern knowledge. the fact that we did all this with the deserved respect to the originals makes us quite sure that the results are bringing something new and interesting to the old tracks and transport the past into the here and now. - henrik schwarz, ?e & dixon

up and coming berlin based till von sein presents his first full release on dirt crew. with records out on trenton, channels, morris audio and his marvellous remixes on moodmusic and for our last tigerskin record he proved to be a new face in the deep house scene that is bound to take over. tills productions are very melodic and gather a lot of influence from jazz to funk and disco, all this combined with a strong tech house groove makes his tracks true dancefloor burners. to give his debut an extra boost we asked his mates catz n dogz ( aka 3 channels ) to deliver a bomb of a remix ! they are currently one of the hottest acts around and recently released a great album on mothership, not to mention their hit remix on boxer last year. these guys proved once more that they can do awesome remixes and their version of ovas is nothing less but brilliant ! it will tear the club apart!

part 2 of the simple, maybe release reveals the dark side of the brothers schwarz. yeah ought to be taken literally. batten down the hatches and turn up the volume, here comes a true masterpiece. naturally, tiefschwarz have saved the banger until last. there are not many tracks out there, which make you get up and dance after two bars already. the basis of yeah is a perfectly orchestrated drum beat. a steady bass drum, rolling toms, a crisp snare, all together powered by a low-pitch synth sample in the background. a sound, that is as offensive and sentimental as possible at the same time. add a well-filtered choir sample on top and you get a deepness and amplitude that can only be mastered by the finest soundsystems on the planet. like looking through a burning glass, the break shows what tiefschwarz are really all about with this track: gradually, all sound elements are shut down, overlayed by white noise that comes with goosebumps guarantee. this spring, youll better be on the dancefloor, when the drums set in again! deininger on the b-side is an almost gloomy track, driven by a dark deep-house bass line. once again, tiefschwarz play with a wide range of elements: an off-beat synth wind section, dry tinker bells and sliced vocals, well-orchestrated by a fine mix. all together this creates the perfect atmosphere for a monday morning sun rise. exhausted, dried-out, longing for your bed and a glass of water, yet at the same time not wanting to go home. great music got soul, the perfect balance, that keeps the heart pumping and the body dancing. deininger is about this certain temper, the groove, that makes you carry on.

baum005 are no other than marko fürstenberg of a.r.t.less/rotary- cocktail/ornaments and thinner fame. on the b side the artist sgi_s joins with a remix. what can you say, but espenhain on the a side is a dancefloor filler. a tight compressed, kick and marko s atmospheric touch of dubby techno. the espenhain remix on the b side, is shaped by swiss artist sgi_s. this track is more of a pure techno track with a old school feeling to it. appegiator groove with a break that builds up to a peak point, but still manages to be deep. ratsholz is the last track on the ep, a soundscape of hiss and noises that forms the hypnotic groove of the track. it starts slowly but it evolves into a sure late night track with a nice melody!

now, white knight two and rave banger kid gloves are getting the remix treatment, courtesy of baltimore superstar dj blaqstarr, excellent canadian smoothies chromeo, high powered boy bobmo and big room royalty laidback luke. blaqstarr delivers a ghetto harpsichord mix featuring his unique vocals, dave 1 from chromeo helped to recast wn2 as a proper love song, bobmo goes linear and mesmerizing and laidback luke injects some fidget into the mix.

planet rhythm is steadily working its way towards a respectable 70 releases. during the last couple of years the label has brought some of the best underground techno and the future is still pretty bright. again its time for the spanish connection in the form of exium! these guys are known for their extremely well crafted work on nheoma and audio assault.this is no exception, deep spaced out techno that works perfect on the dancefloor. audio assault labelboss bas mooy has shown to be a talented producer over the last few years. the man from rotterdam has stayed true to the darker sound of pure techno. this stuff is the result of the fact that bas was born and raised in one of the worlds most technoid cities - molten metal and gallons of raw oil seem to be pumping thru this mans vessels!

for the very first time on kitsune to the exception of a remix! etienne de crecy does an impressive live show with cubes highly recommended. with daft punk, air and alex gopher, he is a member of the french producers club who made history. his track here is techno in the old and noble sense of the term. ultraviolence on the dancefloor. each time its played in clubs, faces look like they are melting, the crowd is on its knees, begging for mercy and they are happy to be there. then >hanukkah< also works in the car monsieur jo, etiennes partner here, is a sound engineer and has produced albums for phoenix and cazals.the ep includes remixes from rising french producers les petits pilous and kitsunes favorite australian dj beni!

the running back sports team is glad to welcome two new players to its roster. dplay and whiz kid manuel tur (see also his brilliant ribn stuff) have caused a great stir with a bouquet of 12-inches for outfits like zurichs beloved drumpoet community or the compost black label as well as knocking out well-made remixes. for instance, their work on kiloos the passion is just adorable. here we have them melted into one organism called dplay, while mtur moves in silence (or in the production credits, if you please). stretching out on the a-side, huub sand is not only a tribute to two of schalke 04s greatest gentlemen, but a prime-example of cavernous, stoic and infective house those two (no not the schalke guys) had quite an impact on. initially planned to come with a remix by the mighty radio slave (please look at cat-no. 012 to see what became of that), our coach could convince the duo to hand out two rather atypical, nonetheless bloodcurdling tunes instead: tschaka kicks some deep dub disco houz styles of the highest orders with riot-like effects on your mind, body & soul. finally, schroulé is a claustrophobic corker, if we have ever seen one. should be the perfect sound track for padded cells and the up-and-coming remake of mel brooks frankenstein. these ruhrpott kids are alright!

after a decent break, while celebrating the 10th release, mojuba is back with a fresh and exciting new talent. we are speaking about tokyo resident called stereociti, a very gifted musician who devoted his heart to the music we love since 1994. his music is self-evidently high quality deep house with a touch of detroits spirit! the first two tracks of sterociti proving his sense for club rocking and touching emotional moments in music!

the final chapter of kuniyuki remixed series. a side, kuniyuki did the remix for the title song of his 2nd album >all these things<. this remix associate the old school house sound like a >face it of master c&j<. b1, one of hottest nu disco producer >mark e< did the remix of flying music. he picked the best point from original song and made club friendly version. b2, our friend alex from tokyos >tokyo black star(innervisions)< did the remix of birds. his remix is like a sound of >mood&grooves<. these three tracks are allround quality music
